Melbourne Peking Duck. Melbourne or Peking? Or Bangsar?

Before I start rambling on my blog post that is only half related to the festive we’re celebrating right now, I’d like to wish all my readers and all the Chinese in the world a very Happy Chinese New Year!

Gong Heii Fatt Choi!!
Wishing everyone a very prosperous year, a very healthy year, and a year safe from all the dangers in the world.

I love taking trams to places outside the CBD in Melbourne and that evening was one of the evening I get to go to a place a little further away.
Fatty brought me to try a Chinese dish that I’ve not tried before, to a restaurant he was raving about.
Peking duck from Old Kingdom in Melbourne.

The restaurant was crowded, there were little walk space.
Guests were chattery and there were lots of smiles on their faces.
There were Australians with their red wine and there were Chinese with their Chinese tea.
Waiters were busy dashing right and left, in and out from the kitchen.
And not to forget, the meal was delicious.

It came to us as a surprise that the chef from Old Kingdom was actually a Malaysian and after years working in Melbourne, he decided to open up a Peking Duck Restaurant here in Bangsar.
It was a good news to us and we wanted to try it out on our 25th months but ended up postponing it to few days ago.

#1 It was a date. :)

#2 It must have sounded really weird for some people, Melbourne Peking Duck. It’s like Sichuan Nasi Lemak or New York Roti Canai.

20130210-135330.jpg
#3 Duck’s way of saying welcome, quack.

20130210-134818.jpg
#4 Restaurant’s interior was simple, or a little too simple in my opinion. I still love the ambiance from Old Kingdom a little bit more.

#5 There are two Peking Duck sets from you to choose from.

Set 1 is price at RM78+.
-One duck slice in 16 pieces served with pancake, scallion, and cucumber.
-Stir fried bean sprouts with shredded duck meat.
-Duck soup with salted vegetable and tofu.

Set 2 is price at Rm88+.
-One duck slice in 16 pieces served with pancake, scallion, and cucumber.
-Fried meehoon, hor fun, or rice with shredded duck meat.
-Duck soup with salted vegetable and tofu.

We picked set 1 as were still very much full from what we had for lunch. So no rice or noodles.

#6 Cutting through the duck’s skin.

#7 And the lady showing us how to wrap it. You can always skip this part if this is not your first time savoring Peking Duck.

20130210-135141.jpg
#8 The duck skin was extremely crispy with fats underneath!

20130210-135104.jpg
#9 I’m hungry already.

20130210-135040.jpg
#10 Stir fried bean sprouts with shredded duck meat. It tasted exactly like what we had in Melbourne, it was really good. I’m not a fan of bean sprout at all but I sapu-ed everything.

20130210-135021.jpg
#11 Duck soup with salted vegetable and tofu which Fatty really loves.

Fatty was really happy that his favourite Peking Duck is in town and even happier when they tasted exactly the same.
I enjoyed my meal very much too! :)
If you convert, it is much more cheaper to have the Peking Duck in Bangsar than in Melbourne. /steal

If Peking Duck isn’t enough for you, there are other individual dishes which you can order, so worry not.

Okay, back to Chinese New Year.

Every year I wanted to get myself a cheongsam for Chinese New Year but every year I give up knowing that it is so hard for me to find the right cheongsam.
Cheongsam is like a Tuxedo, it needs to fit well and I’ve got no idea where to get one that fits me well and doesn’t cost a fortune.
Maybe I can start looking at children’s cheongsam. :(
Or if anybody knows where I can get a a cheongsam with the size UK4, care to enlighten me?

Sometimes, it’s nice to be skinny and all but some other times it just sucks because everything is always too big for me!
You don’t know the number of clothing I have to give up on when I shop, just because of the sizes. :(

I love wearing red during Chinese New Year and I’ve been doing it for years but not this year. Which is a little sad for me.
But I still have my red nails, better than not having anything red at all.

20130210-135611.jpg
#12 Instead of doing a very red and Chinese New Year nails, I tame it with pink gradient because Valentine’s Day is coming up too. :)

20130210-135630.jpg
#13 And red toe nails.

Now I cant wait for gamble session too start. Heh.

Renewing passport has never been easier.

Renewing passport always equals to waking up really early, long queue, long awaited hours, and boring. And paying Rm100 for it.

I have to renew my passport every 2 years because I’m not willing to fork out Rm300 at one go and the procedure is so hassle free not.
I’m going no where in case you wonder. I just need my passport for tickets which I’m unsure of whether I’ll be able to use it in the end.

But guess what!?
It’s 2013 and renewing passport is almost hassle free now.
All you need is your passport picture, a computer and internet.
Yes, you can renew your passport by doing it online HERE.

Scan your passport picture, fill in the forms, pay through credit/debit card and you can collect it the next day.
No more waiting for hours.
I waited for half an hour for them to print my passport after they scanned my thumbprint.

And voila, I have my new passport.
You gotta love technology for making our lives so easy sometimes. :)

Burgundy.

If you’re wondering what have I been up to lately, it’s basically nothing except for being a shopaholic and a couch potato.
And working and going to the mall every week for this and that.

Chinese New Year is approaching, of course I unleashed the shopaholic in me.
What do you expect? The last time I shop was on August last year at Bangkok.
It has been half a year, I deserve a pat on my shoulder or maybe not cause I’m about to lose control. /gasp

Every year I will have a small wardrobe clear out and when I said small it’s because I ended up throwing just a few pieces and keeping a whole load more which somehow left untouched.
So this time I am having a real major clear out and since I’ll probably only have half of my wardrobe left, it sounds totally alright for me to buy quite a number of clothing to replace them. Right? Right? Right?
And I’m not just throwing them away, I’m selling my preloved items at Hello Deer this Sunday (3rd Feb) from 12pm to 8pm.
Yeah just so that I can get more funds for my new bajus heheh.

Other than my preloved clothes, I have new stocks for Caravan too coming in a day or two.
Caravan will be at Hello deer too this Saturday (2nd Feb) from 12pm to 10pm and I cant wait. :)

Our town will be painted in red soon to celebrate Chinese New Year so here’s a few look I saved from lookbook. But not exactly red though, it’s burgundy. I kind of really like this colour recently. :)

Sometimes I wish that we have colder days here in KL so that I can wear sweaters and jackets.
I will definitely complain about the cold but I cant wait to freeze myself when August comes. Heh.

First week of 2013.

First week of 2013 has just passed us by and how do you like yours?
My first week was pretty jam packed with work, playing, partying and finding time to rest.

To start off the new year, I decided to give myself a new look by getting myself bangs.
It was a very last minute decision which came out of the blue.
I cant even be bothered to tell fatty that I was actually planing for a hair cut.
I woke up, walked over to the mall opposite my house and asked for a fringe cut that only cost me RM15 and here I am with a new look.

Fatty was so shocked when he saw me, he thought I pranked him by wearing a wig and he tried to pulled my hair out!
I knew that he dislikes fringe which is why there wasn’t a discussion or else he would have stop me from going into the saloon.

Him: Nevermind lah this is your loyal hairstyle.
Me: What? Why!?
Him: Cause no guys are gonna check you out anymore.
Me: (dafuq! go away!) :(

Him: Looks like you quite like your new hair.
Me: You don’t like my hair meh?
Him: I like all the old things except for my girlfriend.
Me: Right!

I know why he doesn’t like my new hair! Cause I cant flip my hair anymore, you know that sexy hair flip thing lol!
And with this fringe I probably look like a retard to him. PFFT!
Life is hard lol.

20130109-202500.jpg
# But what do you say?

Besides the hair, I’ve been working day and night on the first week with weird breaks in between.
Fatty thinks I’m crazy for working that much but what does he know, I really NEED the money.
To save money, I wont be travelling anymore this year. :(
The only place I will prolly travel to is Melbourne but Melbourne alone is too damn good enough. Hehe :)
Which explains all the saving.

Other than working day and night, I’ve been playing during the day and partying during the night too.
I went to Sunway Lagoon with Fatty and his cousins from Romania and the girls are so cute!
Tickets were really expensive, Rm90 for adults with MyKad and there are no other options.
With Rm90 you can play almost everything in Sunway Lagoon but for people like me it’s not gonna be worth it cause I’m only into the wet part.
It was fun but I wish they have more water slides.

I also get to attend my friend’s wedding dinner on the first week of 2013 with Fatty and there’s another wedding coming up this weekend. Going broke very soon.

For now, I am very looking forward to making more money. :)
And this is just a post to keep you updated without pictures from happenings cause I am lazy like that.
Just follow my Instagram for pictures, ‘peggychow’. :)

2012 Recap.

This year has been a year so full with experiences and memories.
I started my new year being drunk, how ironic.

This year, I went to Sin Sze Si Ya Temple to sip tai sui but I felt like it didn’t quite work.
This year, I went to No Black Tie with Fatty on Valentines Day and had an amazing night listening to Rozz sang.
This year, I went to Hot Air Balloon Fiesta at Putrajaya with Fatty and my little cousin. I had fun playing with them although I didn’t get to see any hot air balloon.
This year, I saw something I didn’t like.
This year, I went to Sekeping Serendah and Sekeping Tenggiri for a short getaway.
This year, I booked and celebrated Fatty’s birthday at Grand Lexis Port Dickson. And I made him a watermelon birthday cake.
This year, I successfully created two businesses with my best friend and boyfriend.
This year, I joined seven bazaars and realized what a lazy ass my boyfriend can be.
This year, I went to 3 countries, Cambodia, Thailand and Singapore (while Fat ass went to 6! PFFT!).
This year, I learned about Cambodia’s war and Pal Pot. This year, I went to Angkor Wat and I learned so much.
This year, I traveled the most. 3 countries, 8 getaways all together and slept in 12 different hotels.
This year, I gained a lot of different experiences from travelling which I cant explain. Exploring places is one of the best thing ever!
This year I partied so hard I went for 6 raves. Flew all the way to Bangkok and drove all the way up to Singapore just for rave.
This year I tried out a lot of good food and I thank god for giving me Fatty because I can’t stand boys who say no to trying out food.
This year I was admitted into the hospital for 3 nights, got 6 big ass ‘injection’, did an X-ray and CT scan, tested my blood twice and I am glad I am all well now.
This year I still do not know how to drive.
This year I still couldn’t drink to save my life.
This year I am still holding on to the promise I promised myself, don’t ever try to smoke.
This year I have successfully stayed away from drugs. Ok don’t get me wrong, not only this year but for the past 24 years.
This year I get to see quite a few of tvb stars and touched some of their hands.
This year I received the sweetest birthday gift that can’t be bought by money from fatty.
This year I lost my dog due to a reason I am not ready to mention. I haven’t felt that heartbroken for a long time.
This year is the twelfth year I lost my dad and I miss him more than ever.
This year I got my fifth tattoo that’s says ‘never a failure, always a lesson’ -Rihanna.
This year I had quite a few dramas over people I can’t seem to tolerate but I realize at the end of the day, the only person worth giving a damn is that one guy by my side who loves me just as much as the first day.
This year my boyfriend grew fatter. :(
This year I didn’t grow taller. :(
This year my BFF sampat went and dyed her hair white.
This year none of my friends got married yet.
This year I finally learned how to stick on fake eyelashes, at the age of 24 lol.
This year I am still blogging.

This year has been one awesome year. :)

Next year? I just want to live.

Singapore : Last Stop – ArtScience Museum.

I’ve been really hardworking the past 2 weeks, feeding my blog with post after post and here’s a final blog post on my Singapore trip.

After breakfast at Em By The River, we took a cab back to Marina Bay Sands. Frankly, after staying for 3 days it definitely feels like home though I don’t fancy the outlook of the building that much. I just don’t see the beauty in it, a ship like thing on top of 3 buildings that doesn’t look impressive.
No doubt, the view from above is beautiful but believe it or not it actually manage to get in the list of world’s ugliest hotel from whichever website/magazine I couldn’t remember.
And our First World Hotel too, lol.

20121215-131612.jpg
#1 Remember the water that gush down from a hole in the middle of The Shoppes at Marina Bay? This is how Ned Kahn’s Rain Oculus looks like from above and I just stood there looking at the water swirl and swirl. It was quite addictive to just look.

20121215-131545.jpg
#2 As we walked towards ArtScience Museum.

#4 Louis Vuitton’s flagship store.

#5 ArtScience Musuem is said to represents a lotus flower and is also referred to as “The Welcoming Hand of Singapore”.

20121215-131421.jpg
#6 There were so many lotuses around ArtScience Museum, they were uncountable.

20121215-131403.jpg
#7 There were also lots of mini fishes swimming under those lotuses.

20121215-131434.jpg
#8 The lotus were really pretty. :)

20121215-131345.jpg
#9 We cant say no to museum and exhibitions.

Fatty and I are quite the partner really because we both are very much disinterested in theme parks and we prefer museums anytime.
Hate paying so much to take pictures with mascot and hate thrill rides even more because we both are lousy and have this annoying thing called height phobia.
Exception only for water theme parks and Disneyland at some guai lou’s country.

20121215-131325.jpg
#10 So instead of going to Legoland which we both don’t fancy, we went for a Lego exhibition instead called The Art Of The Brick.

20121215-131310.jpg
#11 Lego’s yellow man head.

Unlike most people, New York-based artist Nathan Sawaya never stopped building, creating and exploring his own imagination using LEGO® bricks which he has played with since a young age.
In this critically acclaimed and the first major museum exhibition to use LEGO bricks as the sole art medium, Sawaya transforms them into awe-inspiring and thought-provoking sculptures, elevating the toy to the realm of art.

Everything in the exhibition is made from lego by Nathan Sawaya and I must say he really did an impressive job.
To me, Lego is the most annoying toy ever because I don’t know what to do with it.
I cant build a single shit thing and I will just sit there, look at all the Legos and get frustrated afterwards.
I think I prefer fabrics.

20121215-131158.jpg
#12 A swimmer.

20121215-131256.jpg
#13 Where’re my hands?

20121215-131028.jpg
#14 Raindrops.

20121215-131040.jpg
#15 Before we went in further, the boys tried recreating a rain drop. I guess they had fun.

20121215-130821.jpg
#16 Fatty created a robot instead.

20121215-131122.jpg
#17 Look what’s inside of you.

These Lego humans that were created by Nathan Sawaya were mainly what he felt at a period of time or what he saw in life.
Most of it has got a meaning behind which I believe we all once felt in our lives too.

20121215-130940.jpg
#18 This is one of the Lego sculpture which I like most. Every single thing is made from Lego, from the drawer to the basket of fruits, from the brush to the palette, and even the black and white tiles were made from Lego.

20121215-130627.jpg
#19 ‘Beware of winds of life that nibble away at your sense of self. Stay Strong.’ Some words of encouragement.

20121215-130639.jpg
#20 Circle Torso, celebrate the difference in everybody. Which shape are you?

20121215-130516.jpg
#21 Pyramid?

20121215-130603.jpg
#22 This sculpture brought me a very heavy feeling because I used to sit that way in a corner of my room, crying for hours when I was upset. This just looks so sad. :(

20121215-130552.jpg
#23 Ahh, this is one of my favourite too because that red Lego man is as fat as Fatty. Haha. It doesn’t matter if your another half has change in shape and size after years because what matter most is the heart that will always stays the same. So what if he’s fat and I am flat LOLOL!

20121215-130422.jpg
#24 Playing with shadows.

20121215-130540.jpg
#25 ‘Sometimes when you’re looking for a step up, you don’t have to look further than yourself. We’re all capable of more than we think.’

20121215-130412.jpg
#26 And when you thought Lego is all about 3D, there comes the 2D portrait.

20121215-130352.jpg
#27 We tried creating our own Lego portrait with the app on their ipad.

20121215-130332.jpg
#28 Still looks a lot like Fatty. :D

20121215-130403.jpg
#29 And I look a lot like myself too.

#30 My friend.

20121215-130312.jpg
#31 ‘Obstacles. You can let them stand in your way. Or you can overcome them and leave them in your rear-view mirror.’

20121215-130321.jpg
#32 Ideas came when Nathan Sawaya saw his friend singing on the stage.

20121215-130243.jpg
#33 Shit me, I can’t remember what is this called. Some historical building that Fatty find it impressive.

20121215-130224.jpg
#34 While I peeped through it and see what’s inside the mini building.

20121215-130253.jpg
#35 A pencil made from Lego which is taller than me.

20121215-130214.jpg
#36 Are you the same person behind that mask?

20121215-130111.jpg
#37 Fall and shadows.

20121215-130143.jpg
#38 Art Science Museum in Lego. :)

There’s a play area at the end of the exhibition for adults and kids to create their own Lego.

20121215-130045.jpg
#39 And all I did was asked, ‘HOW TO PLAY!?’ while Fatty created his sports car.

20121215-130103.jpg
#40 Presenting you the most impressive sculpture of all, a T-rex.

20121215-130037.jpg
#41 Staffs decorating a Lego Christmas tree as we were leaving.

Lego is never my kind of toy and what to me seems like the most boring toy can be a medium for a creative man to express himself.
The exhibition will be ongoing until 14th April 2013, so you still have plenty of time if you plan for a visit.

Ticket is price at $15 for tourist and $13 for Singaporeans.
For seniors age 65 and above is $14 for tourist and $12 for Singaporeans.
For child from age 2 to age 12 is $9 for tourist and $8 for Singaporeans.

You can also combine two or three different exhibitions together for a cheaper price.
Do take a look at their website for information on exhibitions.
