A trip to Bali with family – Day 4 & Day 5 / Lovina

Day 4 is all about sitting in a car for 3 hours and staying in.
We head to Lovina from Kuta, just to catch a few glimpse of dolphins jumping up naturally from the sea.

Lovina manages to exude a sedate charm even as the number of hotels and other tourist places grows. Almost merging into Singaraja to the west, the town is really a string of coastal villages – Pemaron, Tukad Mungga, Anturan, Kalibukbuk, Kaliasem and Temukus – that have taken on this collective name.

Lovina is a convenient base for trips around the north coast or the central mountains. The beaches are made up of washed-out grey and black volcanic sand, and they are mostly clean near the hotel areas, but generally unspectacular. Reefs protect the shore, so the water is usually calm and clear.

I’ve heard of a place like such from my bff when she told me she drove a few hours up the hill just to watch dolphins.
I thought to myself, ‘crazy meh, so many hours just to see dolphins’ but I was wrong.
It was extremely worth it.

IMG_1739
#1 At Lovina, we stayed in Padmasari Resort which cost the most among five hotels.

#5 The best part is of course their infinity pool and in this pool I found out that I can actually swim if I put my goggles on. Heh.

IMG_1745
#7 We paid about Rm200+ for a night.

#14 Reflection from the pool when the sun was setting. Just beautiful.

We had dinner in the hotel and rest early seeing that our boat will pick us up at 6 in the morning.
There isn’t a jetty right where we get on the boat, so we have to walk and dip our feet into the sea before getting into the boat.
So be prepared to get a little wet if you’d like to see some dolphins.

IMG_1805
#15 There’s isn’t a proper seat on the boat and I tried not to move around so much.

#17 If you look closely, these boats looks like spiders because they have ‘legs’ to balance the boat.

#19 Dolphins!!

IMG_1798
#20 I was really excited when I first saw a glimpse of them jumping up because to me that was such a rare opportunity.

IMG_1794
#21 That’s when the sun rise above.

I kept waiting for dolphins to resurface again and again and once anyone spotted any trace of the dolphins, all the boats will rush over to that direction.
Which in a way I think that rushing towards the dolphins isn’t really the right thing to do because it will scare them away. :(

You can either leave to Lovina from Kuta, Ubud, or wherever during midnight or you can rent a room at Lovina like what we did.
We rent the boat from our hotel and it costed us IDR200,000 (Rm60).
To see something so rare, the money paid is definitely worth it.

IMG_1806
#22 Took this picture while we were heading back and the sea water is really really clear.

IMG_1807
#23 I even spotted a blue starfish from above but couldn’t snap it on time.

Lovina is a must visit if you want an unforgettable experience.
That four hour sitting in the car was worth it and so was waking up at four plus in the morning. :)

Take note: Dolphins will not necessary surface from the sea every single time, so it really depends. There’s no guarantees and no refunds. Also, do wear short pants because you’ll definitely get wet from below your knees.

A trip to Bali with family – Day 3 / Tanah Lot

I’m afraid that by the time I finish blogging my Bali trip, it will be the end of the year. /gasp
I’m only on the third day. T_T

On the third day, we booked Made Supmarjaya for half a day because our itinerary for the day was to go for another sunset.
Matahari Guesthouse do not provide breakfast so we went to Bamboo Corner Restaurant for some affordable first meal of the day.

IMG_1666
#1 Mom was quite excited when she saw Fanta, telling us how she used to drink it when she was young.

IMG_1664
#2 That’s what we do before every meal, haha.

IMG_1665
#3 Breakfast was quite affordable but my poached egg was over cook. :(

#16 This is Tanah Lot.

Tanah Lot is a famous attraction in Bali and it is also a must visit for tourist.

Tanah Lot means “Land [sic: in the] Sea” in the Balinese language.[2] Located in Tabanan, about 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Denpasar, the temple sits on a large offshore rock which has been shaped continuously over the years by the ocean tide.
Tanah Lot is claimed to be the work of the 15th-century priest Nirartha. During his travels along the south coast he saw the rock-island’s beautiful setting and rested there. Some fishermen saw him, and bought him gifts. Nirartha then spent the night on the little island. Later he spoke to the fishermen and told them to build a shrine on the rock for he felt it to be a holy place to worship the Balinese sea gods.

IMG_1693
#17 I wanted to go to the rock where people stand too but I was quite afraid of the waves.

After watching such a beautiful sunset, it was time for dinner.

20130326-152527.jpg
#23 We had Babi Guling for dinner.

Babi Guling is somewhat like our Chinese suckling pig and you can choose different parts of the pig to add in to your rice. The skin is extremely crispy.
Somewhat like our economy rice too.

The restaurant I went for dinner was Warung Babi Guling Sari Kembar 99 at Denpasar but you can find a Warung Babi Guling easily at Bali.
The famous one is at Ubud called Babi Guling Ibu Oka which is highly recommended by Anthony Bourdain.
I wish I get to try Babi Guling Ibu Oka, so if you’re there and you so happen visit Ubud please try this restaurant.

Talking about Babi Guling makes me want to have a plate right now.
I LOVE food so much you cant even imagine. :P

A trip to Bali with family – Day 2 / Pura Luhur Uluwatu

Looking at the amount of pictures from Bali that I have to sort out and upload makes me want to cry.
Realising that my brain most of the time functions a lot slower when I try to cramp out a blog post makes me want to cry even more. Hur hur.
So please appreciate all my blog posts. Lol.

So after leaving Suluban Beach which I’ve blogged here, we went to Pura Luhur Uluwatu.

Pura Luhur Uluwatu is about one hour plus drive from Kuta and it is a Balinese sea temple that is meant to protect Balinese from evil spirits.
We went there for the sunset and to take a good look at the Balinese temple.
Watching sunset at Uluwatu is one of the must do when you visit Bali.

IMG_1612
#1 Just some trees’ shadows and mine.

Take note : There’ll be a lot of monkeys around where drivers park their car and you have to be extra careful of your belongings especially your glasses, sunglasses, cameras or phones.

From what I heard, these monkeys will snatch your belongings and trade it for food. So unless you bribe these monkeys with some fruit, you’re unlikely to get your belongings back. Damn these little cunning furry fellas.

IMG_1623
#2 Entrance to Pura Luhur Uluwatu is IDR20,000 (RM6).

IMG_1613
#3 There are two different vantage point for you to enjoy the great view and this is the right portion where the temple stands.

IMG_1631
#4 While this is on the left where the Kecak dance performance takes place everyday. To watch the dance, you’ll have to pay IDR70,000 (RM21).

We didn’t go for the Kecak dance performance as we weren’t really interested and the price was somewhat pricey.

#5 Me Vinci lego man says hi to Uluwatu.

IMG_1633
#6 He’s a lucky lego man, he flew all the way to Bali. Haha.

Proper attire is needed to visit Pura Luhur Uluwatu, you either wear long pants, bring your own sarong, or rent a sarong for free.

IMG_1619
#8 I of course brought my own sarong that I bought from Bangkok three years ago. It was my first time wearing my sarong after it sits in my wardrobe for so long. Couldn’t find an occasion that suits.

20130319-154937.jpg
#9 My sarong’s colour somehow matches the sarong that is available for rent.

IMG_1628
#13 And wont you look at that beautiful sunset.

IMG_1647
#14 It was pretty amazing seeing the sky changed it’s colour.

After the sunset we went for dinner at Jimbaran Beach before calling it a day.
There’s a whole stretch of seafood restaurant along Jimbaran Beach and the one we went to is Lia Cafe Jimbaran Seafood which is suppose to be cheaper according to my brother.

IMG_1652
#15 It was dinner by the beach.

IMG_1656
#16 So near to the beach that when there were waves, the table in front of us could actually feel the sea water under their feet.

IMG_1658
#17 We ordered Paket A which includes 8 pieces of prawns, 0.5kg of fish, 8 pieces of clams, and 0.5kg of squids for IDR230,000 (RM69). There’re also 2 coconuts, soups, salads, and rice that goes with the set.

20130319-154843.jpg
#18 This is my mom trying to look like a ghost.

Dinner was pretty worth it, squid was grilled to perfection although the fish was a little too hard.
It was quite a good meal that we had to go back for lunch on the last day. :)

A trip to Bali with family – Day 1 & Day 2.

Greetings!

I am back from Bali after 10 days and I brought back sunburns on my shoulders.
Never had any sunburn in my life before!
I bought the air tickets during Chinese New Year when Airasia was having zero fare sales and my two way air tickets to Bali costed me only Rm120.
That was by far the cheapest air tickets that I’ve bought.
I only paid for my air tickets and the remaining expenses was paid by my mom. :D
The last time she sponsored us a holiday was 12 years ago to Europe, this time it is a rare case.

Unlike the usual me who’ll do tons of research before going on a holiday, I researched nothing this time.
I did not book the hotels, plan for the itinerary or even research for restaurants. I left it all to my brother.
I wasn’t as enthusiastic as going to a trip with Fatty because the differences between me, my mom and my brother is too significant to ignore.
I just kind of follow.

The three of us reached Denpasar airport at 11pm+ and seeing that we arrived late at night, my brother picked a hotel that is not too far away from the airport which is Legian Tunes Hotel.
I’ve had quite a good experience with Penang’s Tunes Hotel but it wasn’t the same with Legian Tunes Hotel.

IMG_1576
#1 Me in my dad’s polo tee. <3 IMG_1577
#2 The room is really really small as what I have expected, so it wasn’t much of a problem. What you see here is already 90% of the room space.

IMG_1578
#3 Small isn’t a problem but not being kept clean is. Penang’s Tunes Hotel was so clean and bright, and the bed was really comfortable too.

I was rather shocked by Legian Tunes Hotel room condition but what can I say, it only cost IDR231,500 which is RM75+.

IMG_1580
#4 Small walkway to Legian Tunes Hotel.

We checked out the next morning to Matahari Guest House at Kuta for two days and a day costs about RM90+.
I’d say Matahari Guest House is a better choice than Tunes as the room given was a lot more spacious, with cupboard, television, and a refrigerator.

guest-house-matahari
#5 A picture of Matahari Guest House room I took from Trip Advisor because I cant be bothered to snap a picture of the room.

20130318-155341.jpg
#6 And that’s me in the room.

We went for lunch after dropping off our luggage and since my brother did not do much research on food, I looked it up on Foursquare.

IMG_1584
#7 Nasi Pedas Ibu Andika came up on foursquare with a pretty good rating, sort of like nasi campur.

IMG_1585
#8 Nasi Pedas Ibu Andika and it was bloody pedas! It was scorching hot, the restaurant was stuffy, and my lunch was extremely spicy. Not recommended if you’re a person who cant take in spicy food.

My brother and I walked to Kuta Beach while my mom took a nap in our room.
Kuta is one of the most popular beaches as it is accessible and more commercialized with lots of shops around.

#14 Yours truly under the hot sun.

When you’re at Bali, you definitely need a driver to fetch you around as the island is really big or you can rent yourself a bike/car.
We booked a local driver and his name is Made Supmarjaya. He charged IDR250,000 (RM80/5 hours) for half a day and IDR400,000 (RM130/10 hours) for a full day service.
I highly recommend you look for him as your driver because he keeps smiling all the way.
He drives safe, he’s friendly, he doesn’t smoke, and he kind of doesn’t mind if he has to fetch an hour extra (without asking for extra pay). /thumbs up

We booked him for half day on the second day and he fetched us to Suluban beach, few kms from Uluwatu.

IMG_1590

Howdy howdy!

I know I haven’t been updating my blog for quite some while but here’s a very very short update.

At this moment, I’m enjoying some family time at Bali and I’ll blog like before once I get home.
Really grateful to be able to go on a holiday when I wasn’t suppose to. :)

Hope you guys enjoyed your weekend too.
Till then :)

Sorry for the lack of updates.

First I was distracted by Chinese New Year.
Then it was Valentines x Chinese New Year and spending time with my Fatty considering that he is leaving VERY soon.
Third it was something very important which I will not disclose just yet.

I am now currently distracted by the stress I am having every second and until I have them lifted off me, I will not quite have a proper post.

I should have all the answers to my questions on Monday.
So till then. (My mind and heart is a complete mess right now.)
