Day 4 – the most tiring day ever!

‘Okay I’m waking up at 7 tomorrow for Chatuchak!’, that’s what I told them.
Well, I’m not that much of a shopaholic but we have to go for Sensation White on that same night and obviously I’m old so my energy is VERY limited.
A nap in between is a MUST!


#1 The early kakis on the way to Chatuchak.


#2 This Fatty, bought the most among the guys! Also, the street above is the street I love the most because they mainly sell local designer goods though the prices are a lot higher. Section 23 or something.

I told him that he’ll love it here and knowing him so well, there’s no way he can control himself. Haha!
‘Nolah, I wont buy much one, just a few only’ but obviously he bought a stack.

Chatuchak is too big and they basically sell everything from pets to dry food, from leather goods to clothing.
Do get yourself a map near the toilet area, it will save up a lot of time when you have easy navigation.

If you’re too knacker from all the walking, do get yourself a half an hour massage which I failed to notice the first time I was at Chatuchak.

That half an hour do make a lot of difference. I was recharged though still half dead when we left our hotel to Impact Arena for Sensation White.
It was an indoor rave which was very much different from the ones I went here in Malaysia but thank God for that, it was raining that evening.

We took a few breaks in between and went out to rest while the boys smoke.
I was upset that I was tooooooo knackered from all the shopping, I do not have the energy to dance and have fun.
I was super lazy the entire time all I want to do is to just sit.
Not to mention the first dj, Mr.White was so boring my mood was gone after listening to him played.

Sensation Trip : Bangkok Day 3

Day 3 started off with chicken rice.
It was a pretty famous chicken rice, the whole restaurant was full but it wasn’t too significant to me so I’ll pass posting it up.


#1 No one fancies that piece of clotted chicken blood except for me.

It was a hard decision for us as to where to go next after our lunch.
Some wanted shopping, while some wanted to go to temple.


#2 Grand palace was the conclusion and I’m back for the second time.

There was a lot of tourists at Grand Palace that day and we took a long time queuing up just to rent proper attires.
I did not queue for long the first time I went, this time it was much worse. ):
Fatty and Alvin went out for breaks during the queue and came back with rented attires and we save up quite a lot of our time!

So if you see big crowds at Grand Palace, you might want to just rent the attire from the man outside Grand Palace’s entrance.
It’s gonna save up a whole lot of your time!


#3 Which explains why my long skirt look so much different from the one I wore the first time. This is lighter and easier to walk in by the way.


#4 And I love our couple tee from Pestle & Mortar, heh. I thought Fatty hate all things mushy but he was the one who asked if I’d like to get one. Trying to make me happy I guess. :)

If you do not want to wear ugly shirts, do wear a top that covers your shoulder and arm.
Better still, bring your own long skirt or wear one. Save up some money instead of renting them. :)

I promised Jade Bhuddha that I’ll be back and give thanks when I have the chance and I kept my promise.
I have what I asked for and I am very thankful.
Made a new wish which in my opinion weren’t very greedy, haha. Hopefully God can grant my wish, huhu.

#12 I realised the tuk tuks we took was really pricey and that we should bargain more. My mates were boys and they cant be arse to bargain a little more, which explains. :(

If you’re going to Bangkok, please bargain as much as you can.
Our trips all costed us 100baht per way and it is expensive. Bargain up to 50baht if you have the time and patience.

Sensation Trip : Dinner at T&K Seafood Restaurant.

Just a short update on our dinner at Bangkok’s Chinatown.
I actually do not know there’s a Chinatown at Bangkok, cant be bothered to explore the first time there.
Pratunam seems like a place good enough for me two years back.

#3 Someone I don’t get to see often, glad that she can can make it for our Sensation trip. :)

You know how some of the taxi drivers or tuk tuk drivers are actually half scammers, they always suggest you restaurant or places to go.
Do not stick to their suggestion and DO NOT ask for suggestion.
There are actually taxi drivers at Bangkok that suggest you to this seafood restaurant named ‘Sampoon D’ (I’m not sure if it’s spelled correctly cause I haven’t been there) and you’ll regret the moment you step in.
From what my sources told me, the food is not at all delicious.
Food being not delicious, well that’s fine but the bill is crazy.
The bill came up to a total of 6000+ baht for only 5 person. They charge you for tax, they charge you for tips, and they charge you for extra tips!

Bryan’s friend, a Thai tour guide told us that this restaurant was opened by a group of people from the black market and obviously they’re there to scam people like us, tourists.

Look at the amount of seafood we ordered at T&K Restaurant and I will reveal the price at the end of my post.


#4 My favorite dish, raw shrimp! I LOVE IT!! Looking at this picture now made me crave for a plate of raw shrimp!

#10 Vegetable. This is like the only plate of vegetable we ate the entire trip, lol.

#13 Fried rice which I really dig! Dinner is not complete with a bowl of rice. :D

And a few large bottles of beer.
The bill came up to about 3300 baht for the 7 of us!
Food was served super fast despite the crowd, it was fresh and flavorful.
What else could you ask for with such an affordable price?

My Bangkok Day 1 post was a lot like a hotel review, sorry if it bores you.
But hey, I love to blog on hotels that I’ve stayed and hopefully it contributes a little if you’re to make a choice on where to stay.

Poh Juan, Piao Ching, and the twins stayed at a hotel few minutes from Glow.
We met up and off we went for breakfast.

#1 Braised pork rice that I don’t really fancy. Not that it doesn’t taste nice, just that I don’t fancy braised pork.

We walked quite a distance, searching for Four Face Buddha and halfway through we gave up walking.
Please make full use of the public transportation, there’s BTS station everywhere.

#2 But I love what I saw along the way. Abandoned building with wall graffiti.

#3 New building.

#6 I had a frightful moment here! I wanted to thank Four Face Buddha so I bought some flowers and what not as my offerings. I was holding a loop of flowers when suddenly I felt a sharp pain on my hand, around my thumb area. I looked at my hand and I saw a green caterpillar sticking it’s head out from the flower and looking at me! WTF! I almost do not know how to react, it was a fucking green caterpillar and it bit me and it hurts and there were some yellow stains on my hand, God knows what is that! I almost thought I’m gonna die or that my hand will turn red and itchy. Washed my hand with some holy water and thank God nothing happened. Not trying to be dramatic but it’s a fucking green caterpillar! PFFT!

#7 Siam Discovery.

#8 Colourful tapes on a mini eased my frightful experience.

#9 So happy when I saw a few pop up container stores around Siam Discovery! Container homes, container stores, container workshops, container whatever, I just love it!

#10 Next mall that we went after Siam Discovery was Siam Paragon, which I named it as Bangkok’s Pavilion. Branded, branded, and branded.

#11 There’s a Lamborghini showroom in the mall, not only selling real Lamborghini but they sell a mini version of it too. I cant quite remember the price but I think they’re selling it for 18000 Baht. Or more.

#12 The only thing that I wanted to do in Siam Paragon was to fix the sim card that I bought, everything else bores me. So Alvin, Fatty and I walked over to Bangkok Art and Culture Centre.

#13 I wished I could have some time to visit the Art and Culture Centre but we only have time for a drink at Gallery cafe.

#14 I love cafes! Love the smell of coffee beans and the look on enthusiastic baristas. :)

#15 Ahh! Cant express how much I love all these, arts and designs and I also cant express how much I hate the fact that I wasn’t at all talented! Pfft!

#16 Teapots, teacups, and everything else that Gallery Cafe is selling.

#17 Cactus to cheer up the ambiance. :)

#18 Reminds me of Beauty and the Beast teacup.

#19 Alvin and his Thai milk tea which is really good! After two sips, I kind of crave for milk tea until today!

#20 Walked over to MBK mall and wait for the remaining to meet us before we start our shopping frenzy!

#21 There’s nothing much inside MBK mall except for the Thai snacks that they sell, which me and Fatty bought quite a lot.
But there are a lot of shops and stalls opposite MBK mall. Cross the pedestrian bridge right infront of MBK mall and your shopping trip starts there. I enjoyed shopping at that area more than Platinum mall. Platinum mall never satisfies me, except for accessories. Nice clothing are always too expensive and the cheap ones are ugly.

It is more worthwhile to shop around MBK area and Chatuchak than to shop at Platinum Mall.
But then again, at the end of the day it’s just preference. :)

I want to refrain myself from posting a long post so I’m gonna break it down.
(Because my mean bff has got something to say about long boring travel post that bores her, hahah.)
OF COURSE, MINE IS NEVER BORING TO HER! :P

Next up : Dinner at Chinatown.

 

Sensation Trip : Bangkok Day 1

It has been a long time since I travelled with such a large group of friends and it’s even better when the destination is Bangkok.
Travelled together in a large group yet not so together after all.
We didn’t take the same flight nor did we booked the same hotel.
It is just that hard when we’re all adults busy with work.

Some of them went during the day, Fatty and I went during night time and the remaining ones went on the next day.
Our flight was a little too late and we cant manage to take the train back to our hotel which will actually save up a lot, money wise.

The first time I went to Bangkok, me and my friends took the train and it cost us lesser than RM5 if my memory doesn’t fail me.
I am always on the budget side. :)

This time, Fatty and I took a taxi back to our hotel costing us 470 baht.
And was greeted by Alvin straight away, he was our room mate during the trip. :)


#1 I booked Glow hotel which is right above Shibuya19 Mall, located at Pratunam. Really convenient as Pantip Mall and Platinum Mall is just a pedestrian bridge away.

We were all suppose to book Baiyoke hotel but seeing that the room in the pictures were rather old, I decided not to.
I don’t fancy old hotels, if I have a choice. Especially not in Thailand cause it creeps me out.


#2 Glow is a very new hotel, opened since June 2012 and it is located on the 7th floor onwards. Here’s a picture of their lobby where you get ready your documents to check in. A gem at Pratunam area they called it, right smack in the middle of shopping malls.

#5 Complimentary computer usage for guests.


#6 Swimming pool which we didn’t get to enjoy due to time constraint. It does really look nice and simple.


#7 Our room for the three of us. Beds and pillows were extremely soft.


#8 Clean, bright, and cosy. Flat screen tv and an Ipod dock to keep you entertain.


#9 Wardrobe where you can access it from the room or from inside the bathroom, there are sliding doors on each side.

Besides being really clean and comfortable, service from staff was top notch too.
I bought a Happy Tourist sim pack from the 7-11 nearby and I had a hard time buying internet data the next day.
I asked for help from one of their staff and she was so ready to help me, putting on a smile every second.

I was really glad that I came across Glow because it is so value for money.
For only about Rm200 a night, you get to stay in a hotel with a 5 star service and cleanliness.
Not to forget Glow is super accessible.


#12 After exploring Glow hotel and our room, the three of us went out for a drink while the others were too tired to move an inch. And this is Cowboy Soi.


#13 Spot the sexy lady!

Cowboy Soi, not a place I fancy. It was somewhat dodgy and the pubs weren’t nice but then again, Cowboy Soi might be a heaven for single dudes out there. ;)

My night ends after I grab a Samurai burger from McDonalds so my post will end here as well.
I know, my post is more like a hotel review but I cant post more photos.
Internet is crawling like a snail this moment.

Journey for the Soul : Siem Reap Day 4.

My previous Siem Reap day 3 post was to me, a little too heavy which is why I skipped rambling and rambling on what we did that night after exploring beautiful ruins.

We went to Pub Street for the second time, it’s like the only place you’ll feel like going during the night. Or more like the only place you can hangout at night.
The first thing we did upon reaching Pub Street was to look for a decent massage parlor.
We went to this massage parlor called Lemongrass Garden and we paid $10 for a full body massage which lasts for about one hour.
I cant remember much on the massage, I was falling asleep. Towards the end, we both wished we could continue sleeping till the dawn breaks.
After such a long and tiring day, it is definitely worth pampering yourself with a nice massage.

If you’re on a tight budget, you can opt for a $2 foot massage that last for half an hour.
There’re everywhere around Pub Street and for such a low price, I’ll just have to say that it is worth every penny you pay.

For days I told Fatty that I wanted to try their local bbq because I saw them everywhere and they look so tempting. I just had to, so bbq it was after our massage.
There’s a street of local food at Pub Street where you can spot easily. If you’re looking for cheap dinner, that’s the place to go.


Right before we stepped into Pub Street, where people enjoy their beer, music, and companion.

I randomly picked a stall and ordered what we saw on the menu.


Orgasmic ice blended fruit juice! Fatty’s mango banana ice blended juice and my coconut ice blended juice. These are seriously so good and rich, not just some lousy packet fruit drink. Their ice blended fruit juice will deoxidise and soon change colour after it is left for too long.

And the local bbq I ordered. You can choose up to four different type of meats plus vegetables, noodles, and rice will be included for just $4 a set. The portion is just nice for the two of us.

On the next day which is our 4th day at Siem Reap, we swapped hotel again.
We’re back to the first hotel that mistakenly booked our room wrongly, Golden Banana Boutique Hotel and Resort.
Among all three hotels which we picked, Golden Banana costs the most. We paid RM260 for a night which is indeed quite pricey.

Absolutely love their wardrobe!! Directly attached to the wall’s cement. And damn, I love their rattan hangers too. Was so tempted I almost wanted to take those lovely hangers home.

Not sure where to go after checking out our room, I decided to go to their local market for a walk. Yes, pasar. (:


Tried their local coffee and cup of ice coffee alone can cause the both of us diabetes! It was soooooooo sweet I wonder how much of condensed milk she poured it in.


Crickets, anyone?

Something from Siem Reap that made in fell in love with is their kampot black pepper.
I love the smell and the taste of their black pepper, very much different from those I’ve tasted.


Local spices and snacks. $2 for 3 packs if I’m not mistaken.
Don’t buy from shops or night markets, their definitely more pricey. The cheapest I saw are the ones selling in the market.

The best food, most often than not can be found in the most unexpected place.
Nothing interesting, I know. Looks somewhat dirty even.


But this bowl of noodle completed my day. Every now and then I miss eating this bowl of noodle!! Fatty said it’s ‘la zah min’ as known as dirty noodles. Please someone enlighten me, do we have it here in Malaysia?

After our lunch, we went back to the thought provoking cafe called Art Deli to have a drink.


Have I mentioned that beers in Cambodia is amazingly cheap? Only $0.50 for glass of draft Angkor beer and $1.50 for a bottle of Asahi.
Now I really wish I can drink.

Keep calm and carry one.

I enjoyed my short time in the cafe. Enjoyed looking at all the arts around and listen to one of my favourite music, Soledad.
Time constraint wont let me stay for long so I leave this little cafe knowing that one day, I’ll be back definitely.
We wanted to spend more time in the hotel since we paid quite a sum for it so we went back for a swim.


Sorry, I’m a girl. A vain one sometimes. :P

Time for my much awaited dinner after our swim.
Among all the restaurants that I’ve researched on, Wat Damnak Cuisine is the only restaurant that I told myself I cannot miss.

‘Cuisine Wat Damnak was founded on the simple concept of using only local fresh seasonal produce with which to create exquisite Cambodian food.’
Cuisine Wat Damnak is considered as a fine dining restaurant and they only have two set menus for you to choose from. However, their set menus are change every week depending on what’s available in the market as the chef will only pick the freshest and the best ingredients.

Don’t get me wrong, I was so eager to try Cuisine Wat Damnak is not for the reason that I want to dine in fancy restaurants. I was attracted by their concept, how their menus will change every week and how dedicated this french chef is. ‘French chef’, I cant say no.

There’s two tasting menu, one price at $17 and another price at $24.

A very asian yet taste too good to be true amuse bouche.

The quality of the pictures I took are bad due to the dim light so I’ll forego posting it up.

Four course meal with a dessert for only about Rm75, that’s like a frigging good deal.
If you ever go to Siem Reap, please try this restaurant. This will not disappoint you, I swear. :)

And that’s how we end our last night in Siem Reap, with a very good meal.
That night, I was heavy hearted. I do not want to leave this inspiring place just yet.
Right there and then I wish I can have another week but I tell myself I shouldn’t be greedy.

We were running late and I was so afraid that we might not make it to the airport on time.
But then again I realised, no such thing.


Goodbye Siem Reap for now.

I will definitely be back and the next time when I’m there, there’s one thing I will and must do.
Go for a cooking class because they do offer such classes there.
